When we first identified ourselves, John Hurt asked, "Are you here about that rumor?" He went on to explain that several years after President Kennedy's assassination, he received numerous calls from people who told him that they were with various agencies of the news media. They asked him about a phone call that Lee Harvey Oswald was supposed to have placed to him. John Hurt told the callers that he didn't know what they were talking about and he was not contacted anymore. Hurt stated that he had never been contacted by any government agencies about this.

We showed the copy of the telephone slip from the Dallas jail, bearing his name and phone number and he told us that he never knew L.H.O. and he has no idea how his name and phone number got on the slip.
