18. John HINTON was born in April 1867 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.⁶ In 1900 he was a day laborer in Sparta Township, Edgecombe County, North Carolina.⁶ He died on 3 July 1911 at the age of 44.² He developed a severe drinking problem during his life. His daughter Mary Ella was raised by his sister and her husband, Mary and Gold Trevathan. (source: Ruth Proctor Covert, 5/27/2000)

John HINTON and Mattie Cornelia STALLINGS were married on 19 December 1888.¹¹ They^¹¹ lived in Sparta Township, Edgecombe County, North Carolina in 1900.⁶ Mattie Cornelia STALLINGS, daughter of Samuel Perry STALLINGS and Temperance Cornelia BELCHER, was born in January 1872 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.^6,7 She died on 5 May 1903 at the age of 31.²

John HINTON and Mattie Cornelia STALLINGS had the following children:

+32	i.	Robert Perry "Bob" HINTON.
+33	ii.	Thomas Edward HINTON.
+34	iii.	Mary Ella HINTON.
35	iv.	William Aaron "Bill" HINTON was born on 10 May 1896.^2,6 He lived in Kecoughten, Elizabeth City County, Virginia in 1942. He lived in Hallwood, Accomack County, Virgina in 1968.¹² Bill died on 6 November 1968 at the age of 72.^2,12 William's obituary: "Moncure -- Funeral services for William A. Hinton, 72, who died Wednesday in the Veteran's Hospital in Kecoughton, Va., will be conducted Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Gene Balline. Burial, Haywood Presbyterian Church Cemetery." He served in the military as PFC in Quartermaster Corps, US Army, in WWI.¹³
36	v.	John Luther HINTON was born on 1 July 1900.² He died on 31 August 1900 at the age of 0.²
37	vi.	Mattie Cornelia HINTON was born on 17 February 1903.² She died on 3 June 1903 at the age of 0.²
