57. Grover Belmont PROCTOR Sr46,47 was born on 7 January 1918 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Family stories say that the names "Grover" and "Belmont" were suggested to his parents by a neighbor lady, Mrs. Taylor, a widow who lived with her adult son John next door to the Proctors. There is no record as to why she chose those names. (Source: interview with Ruth Covert, 11/30/2003) He graduated in 1935 in Moncure, Chatham County, North Carolina. (Moncure High School) He served in the military from 1944 to 1945. He served in the U.S. Army as Pfc from April 1944 until his discharge in November 1945. He participated in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Rhineland (Siegfried Line) Campaigns; was wounded near Olzheim, Germany, in February 1945; and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. (source: U.S. Army documents) From 1952 to 1954 Grover was a Cost Accountant at Peden Steel in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina.59,60,61 In 1955 he was an Assistant Warehouse Manager at Peden Steel in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina.62 He died on 22 June 1982 at the age of 64 in Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina.
